Food for Thought

The entire pageant weekend- especially the pageant itself- was a whirlwind of experiences. The audience sees the stage in all of its glitz, glamour, and glory. The contest witness backstage, then get to go on stage and be absolutely stunning. Of course, there will always be events that our memorable, and nothing is ever going to go perfect.

  • On Saturday, the hotel lost electricity. Aside from not being able to use straighteners, blow dryers, curling irons, and everything else necessary to get ready, we also had to use glow sticks to get through the hallways and staircases until emergency lighting could get turned on.
  • Earrings, necklaces, and bracelets break. Shoes fall off, and people trip for a number reasons. I personally walked off the wrong side of the stage. Dresses are too loose or too tight, and stains occur as well. You have to move on.
  • Let me tell you right now, the opening number dance isn't easy. You have to get on stage, stand in the right place, be on time with everyone else, never break your smile, and perform for the entire audience.
  • Blisters happen, you just have to be armed with band-aids. Oh, and your feet will most likely be numb by the end of the night.
All in all, I wouldn't change it for the world. The experiences and friendships you make are wonderful, and nothing else can compare.

Being pretty is in the eyes of the beholder, and changes from every single girl. I put on make-up, and curl my hair. I wear impeccably high shoes, plan out my jewelry, and have garment bags full of pretty dresses. Being beautiful, however, comes from within. It is a light that shines as soon as you walk in to the room; people want to know who you are. No amount of make-up can fake being truly beautiful. It is an attitude and personality, and true queens have it. Pageants aren't about looking pretty, they're about making a difference in your community and being a role model. Pretty and beautiful are often used as synonyms; pageants have taught me that there is a much larger difference.

I want to thank everyone that voted for me as "Audience Favorite," it is truly an honor. Without the love and support of my family and friends, I would be no where today. Also, a huge thanks to everyone that bought an advertisement from me. As soon as I get it resized, I will be wearing the gorgeous ring that I won due to your support.

Always walk as though there is a crown on your head.
This quote reminds me to always stand up straight and elude confidence. Never talk bad about someone else, and always have a positive attitude and smile. You never know who may be looking up to you. A queen knows that she is a role model to everyone around her; I hope I can be the same to you.

My experience in pageantry has taught me so much, and I am truly thankful for everyone that has supported me. I have every intention to continue with my platform and influence young children. You never know, I may just amaze everyone next year.

Academy Volleyball

It's so important for kids to get involved in physical education at a young age. It helps them grow up to be healthy adults, and gives them a great hobby. My niece has played for YMCA volleyball, but recently switched to Academy Volleyball hosted at Canyon High School. I went and sat in on the girls' practice tonight, and got a few pictures with some of them as well.

Best of luck at each and every game!

Girl Scouts of America

Girl Scouts of America is such a wonderful group for young ladies to get involved in. They are about to start cookie season, so there's plenty of joy and excitement with the upcoming sugar buzz that I'm sure many of us will partake in. Best stated by the shirt: "Girl Scout cookies make me smile." I stopped in tonight to talk to the girls about being in pageants and talked to them about bullying as well. I was incredibly happy to find out how many of them remembered things from the lessons on bullying and visits from their counselors.

Family Time

Everyone knows that busy schedules can sometimes cause us to lose sight of what it most important. This afternoon, my cousin had his fifth birthday party. It reminded me how much young kids look up to those around them. I took the opportunity to talk to them about bullying, but also knew to step back and enjoy our time together. Below are some pictures I wanted to share.

Guadalupe Youth Sports League

GYSL is a wonderful sports league hosted in Marion, Texas. Today, children as young as pre-k played basketball games on teams against one another. Starting at a young age gives kids a hobby while keeping them active, and it was blatantly obvious to me that they progress as they grow older.

Stop Bullying Now

Stop Bullying Now is a wonderful website for both kids and adults. My niece, who has suffered from bullying personally, found it really interesting. Not only do they have videos and games for kids to enjoy, it also helps cope with bullying and teaches strategies to handle it. Adults can use the website to get information on bullying, and even find ways they can help out as well.

Remembers, 5.7 million children are affected by bullying. Your awareness can help make a difference!
